When travelling abroad we sometimes forget to think about peculiarities of the ways of life in another country. In some cases they differ in different cities of the same country. So here are collected the most important facts about Lviv ways of life.
Main current is 220 Volt (50 Hertz). Not all sockets are fit for European or US electric appliances, therefore carrying a universal adapter and voltage transformer is essential if you plan to use your laptop, electric toothbrush, etc.
Cold/hot water supply is according to schedule: a few hours in the morning and in the evening. BUT in all hotels and apartments we are offering have individual system of water supply.
It is advisable not to take big sums of money with you, do not exchange money on the street, when using public transport watch your luggage, hand bags or pockets. Do not take taxi with strangers. Obeying these simple rules will make your stay safe and pleasant.
There are two types of public transport in Lviv: municipal and private.
To the first category belong all trolleybus and tram system and some minibuses (marshrutky) like # 5. Operating hours: 7.30 am - 10.00 pm. Frequency: every 15-20 min. BUT be ready to wait longer for tram/trolleybus depot is out of date and machines are sometimes broken.
To the second category belong minibuses (or marshrutne taksi or marshrutky). These are wagons adapted for passanger transportation. Slowly but steadily they are changed for big specialized cars. They are yellow, orange or white coloured. Operating hours: 7.00 am - 10.00 pm. Frequency: every 15 min.
Taxi is the most comfortable way to get where you want. In Lviv most of taxi services are not charged according to meter (or ¨lichylnyk¨), moreover if you are a foreigner taxi drivers may tell higher price than it is. Internet. Though Internet is widely used by Lvivers, still not all hotels and apartments are equipped with Internet access. So if you badly need Internet you can visit one of Lviv Internet clubs. Most of them also offer cheap telephone calls abroad:
Dudayeva 12 - opening hours: round-the-clock. Internet - 4 UAH/per hour. You may pay in advance or after you have worked for the actual time spent. There is a VIP room where Internet costs 6 UAH/per hour.
¨Chorna Medeya¨. Doroshenka 50; Proyizd Kryva Lypa 9 - opening hours: round-the-clock. Internet - 4-9 UAH/per hour depending on the part of the day. You may pay in advance or after you have worked for the actual time spent. There is a VIP room where Internet costs a bit more.
¨Pavuk¨ (Spider¨): Svobody Prospekt 7, Shevchenka Prospekt 16 - opening hours: round-the-clock. Internet - 4-6 UAH/per hour. You may pay in advance or after you have worked for the actual time spent. There is a VIP room where Internet costs a little more. Copy-centre offers a wide range of services: xerox, printing, typing, translation, etc.
