Lviv is a cultural centre of Ukraine, located in the western part of the country, only 74 km from the European Union border (see: How to get to Lviv). The old part of Lviv is on the UNESCO list. Its long and dramatic history along with its multicultural community (Ukrainians, Jews, Poles, Germans, Austrians, Armenians, Russians, etc.) formed great architecture and unique atmosphere. This is the place where the Orient meets the Occident, where old traditions coexist with postmodernity and where remnants of the Soviet Union contrast with energy of young democracy.
Feel the atmosphere of Lviv, come and explore it yourself.
Lviv is famous mainly for its architecture. Indeed, the variety of architectural styles can be impressive: gothic, renaissance, baroque, classicism (and their neo-variants), biedermeier, art-deco, secessionism and others. All these styles were often mixed and today they compose the unique Lviv landscape, with beautiful churches, palaces and mansions.
Nevertheless, Lviv is not only an architectural pearl. It is also known for its beautiful parks, mostly designed in XIX century. You will find here some interesting museums, galleries and theatres. Lots of various events take place here: literature, music and theatre festivals, as well as concerts, forums and conferences. Additionally, you can always spend your time and money in restaurants, clubs and souvenir shops. There is a lot to see & do around Lviv, as well. Castles, palaces, smaller and bigger towns with their complicated history and interesting architecture (Ivano-Frankivsk, Drohobych, Truskavets, Zhovkva, Sambir, Zolochiv, Przemysl), and finally, Carpathian Mountains – all in just a few hours by car from Lviv.
