Sights Lviv Guide How to get to Lviv How to Get to Lviv (Lvov)
How to Get to Lviv (Lvov) PDF Print E-mail

Getting to Lviv by bus can be either quite comfortable and relatively cheap - if you take a long-distance one (at least overnight) or a pain in... (try it and choose a word) - if you take a bus from any town in Eastern Poland...
As for trains - Lviv is a regional railway cross-point and should you travel to any place in Western Ukraine or from/to Ukraine western neighbour countries, you'll probably go through it. There are trains to Berlin, Wroclaw, Warsaw, Prague, Viena, Budapest, Belgrad, Sofia, Venice and to several places in former USSR. It's a great point to start a train-trip through Ukraine and to get acquainted with a unique soviet railway system. Trains in Ukraine are quite slow, but these coming from Western and Middle Europe to Lviv are even slower - due to changing the rail gauge. Many railway fans are traveling to Ukraine by train just to see the rail exchange operation...

Lviv By Bus
The first option  doesn't really need any description - there are routes to Lviv (or to Kyiv, through Lviv) from Italy, France, UK, Germany, Belgium, etc. - if you can't find any bus company offering transport to Ukraine, ask us, maybe we can help. These routes are mainly operated by Ukrainian bus companies, but they have their representatives abroad - usually local travel agencies in places where the bus stops to take passengers.

The second option is to fly to Poland and then get to Lviv by bus. It can be the cheapest choice, if you use a low-cost airline. Buses usually depart in the evening and get to Lviv in the morning - from: Warsaw (3 a day), Krakow (daily), Lodz (every other day), Katowice (every other day), Wroclaw (3 a week), Lublin (2 a day), Sanok (2 a week), Olsztyn (3 a week). These buses are not comfortable at all, but quite cheap (15-30 USD).

If you don't want to spend a night in bus, you can get to Przemysl [pshemyshl] by train, from which you can get to Lviv by bus 8 times a day (9 USD) and spend 4-5 hours with local smugglers (not dangerous, just boring and cold in winter).

Lviv is a main bus hub of Western Ukraine. Additionally, most buses, that head to Ukraine from the West, cross the town.

Bus tickets in Ukraine are cheap and sell out very fast. Therefore, it's essential to book tickets in advance. We can buy for you a ticket to any destination from Lviv. We can also help you in choosing the best option to get here. Just ask us for help ».

Choose the town you are heading to and ask us for help, if you want to buy a ticket.

Lviv By Train
To buy a ticket from Lviv you should personally go to the train station here with your passport (and passports of everyone travelling with you!), stand in a queue which can last looong and even then you can evetually hear that there are no tickets for your train. Ukrainian railways are the cheapest in Europe but it results in such disadvantages as e.g. running out of tickets long before the day of departure.

We can arrange for you any route you can imagine. We can buy tickets for you when everyone is telling you it's impossible. Do not hesistate to ask us for help.
